The Glendale College Vaqueros showed grit and flashes of brilliance on their home court Friday night, but visiting Citrus College came away with a 3–1 victory (25–12, 23–25, 25–23, 25–17). The loss drops Glendale to 2–14 overall and 0–5 in conference play, while Citrus improves to 10–9 and 2–3.
After a tough opening set, the Vaqueros regrouped to take a thrilling second frame 25–23 behind a strong all-around effort from Eva Portnaya, who tallied 10 kills on an efficient .308 hitting percentage. Portnaya also contributed three solo blocks and one service ace, finishing with a team-high 14 points.
Sarai Ochoa added steady production for Glendale, registering six kills, two service aces, and nine digs. Setter Shiho Uchida ran a balanced offense with 14 assists and added two aces and eight digs of her own.
Abigail Yeoh provided firepower at the net, collecting eight kills and two service aces, while Raelee Lanphear anchored the defense with a team-high 17 digs and two aces. Mika Valiente also chipped in with four kills and two block assists, giving Glendale energy in key moments. Glendale will look to build on its positive stretches as it continues conference play next week. The Vaqueros' next match will be another opportunity to turn their hard-fought performances into the win column.
