2016 GCC Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

 

1979 Men's Soccer - Outstanding Team

The 1979 Men’s Soccer Team won the WSC, Southern California and state championship under Head Coach Cherif Zein, who also coached the 1983 team to the state championship and has previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame with that group. The 1979 team finished the season 14-1-4

Robert Dos Remedios - Pillar of Achievement

Robert Dos Remedios played football at Glendale for two years and was an All-American in 1985 for the team that was inducted into the HOF in 2002. He later played football at UC Berkeley and has worked in the field of strength and conditioning for decades and he has given clinics all around the world.

Frank Farwell - Meritorious Service

Frank Farwell has been a dedicated supported of GCC Athletics for over 30 years as a former football player and assistant football coach. He played for the Vaqueros in 1982-83, coached defensive backs from 1994-2009. His wife Tami was a former cheerleader for Glendale and his son Tanner was a former player and assistant coach.

Tony Hoggatts - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

Tony Hoggatts was the Co-State Player of the Year for the Vaqueros Men’s Basketball Team in 1998 - 1999 and was also the Western State Conference Player of the Year that season and continued his career at Cal State Bakersfield. He led the Vaqueros to consecutive elite eight appearances and he led the team in scoring, assists, three-point shooting and free throw shooting.

Brett Miller - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

Brett Miller played 10 years in the NFL from 1983 to 1992 for the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets and the San Diego Chargers as an offensive lineman. He played two years at Glendale in 1978-79 and later at the University of Iowa from 1980-82. He was at one time considered the strongest man in the NFL.

Diane Spangler - Outstanding Coach

Dianne Spangler was a tremendous athlete at GCC and coached women’s volleyball, cross country and track and field from 1976 to 1991. Two of her teams, in volleyball and cross country, have been inducted into the HOF, as well as athletes Donna Mayhew, Julie Flynn and Angela Collins.

Oliver Shokouh - Distinguished Community Partner

Oliver Sokouh is a Distinguished Community Partner of Glendale College, recognized for his outstanding support, leadership, and commitment to the success of the Vaqueros and the surrounding community. His continued involvement reflects a dedication to service, collaboration, and the advancement of Glendale College athletics and programs.
 

Chris Hale - Alumni Speaker

Chris Hale is a former All-American defensive back at Glendale College, where he starred on the nationally ranked 1986 Vaqueros, a team that finished 10–0 in the regular season behind a dominant defense. A two-time CIF Southern Section Long Jump Champion at Monrovia High School, Hale went on to compete at USC, playing in two Rose Bowls, and later in the NFL, appearing in three Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills (1991–93). After his playing career, he became a longtime Fox Sports West/Prepzone color analyst, an NFL uniform inspector for Los Angeles Rams games, and President of the NFL Alumni Southern California Chapter. He was inducted into the Glendale College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
