The Glendale College Vaqueros delivered one of their most competitive performances of the season Friday night at GCC, taking Allan Hancock to a full five-set showdown before ultimately falling 3–2 (21-25, 13-25, 25-15, 29-27, 12-15).
After a slow start in the first two sets, Glendale came alive in the third, breaking through with strong team energy, cleaner passing, and improved defensive coverage. The Vaqueros carried that momentum into an intense fourth set, where they outlasted Hancock 29–27 in one of their grittiest frames of the year. Glendale's fight was fueled by improved serve-receive, disciplined blocking, and a balanced effort across the lineup.
Team leaders such as Jessica Casper, Journey Blueford, and Abigail Yeoh helped stabilize the Vaqueros with steady defense and confident swings late in rallies. Shiho Uchida and Kiana Canales kept points alive with key digs, while the bench brought energy that helped shift the momentum in sets three and four.
Despite falling short in the decisive fifth set, Glendale showed resilience, composure, and meaningful growth. The Vaqueros' ability to storm back, extend rallies, and push the match to the wire highlighted the team's fight and determination as they continue to build toward stronger finishes.
