The Glendale College Vaqueros earned a big home win on September 5, defeating Riverside in five sets (23-25, 25-13, 26-24, 23-25, 16-14). It was a close match from start to finish, but Glendale pulled through in the deciding set.
Abigail Yeoh led the way with 10 kills, 6 digs, and strong play at the net. Eva Portnaya added 8 kills and 2 aces, while Mika Valiente scored 7 kills and 3 block assists. Setter Shiho Uchida had a great all-around game with 30 assists, 4 kills, and 4 aces. On defense, Sarai Ochoa led the back row with 12 digs and 2 aces. Journey Blueford chipped in 7 kills and a block, and Jessica Casper added 2 kills, 6 digs, and a block.
As a team, Glendale finished with 38 kills, 13 service aces, and 7 blocks, showing balance on both offense and defense. The Vaqueros stayed strong under pressure and closed out the match 16-14 in the fifth set to secure the victory.
