It was a tough ending to a strong season as Glendale dropped a 47–43 heartbreaker to Saddleback in the second round of the regional playoffs Saturday night.
The Vaqueros opened with intensity, building a 15–9 lead after the first quarter and setting the tone defensively. Glendale held Saddleback to just 28.6% shooting and forced 17 turnovers in the contest, but offensive struggles proved difficult to overcome late.
Shadel Ffrench was a force in the paint, posting a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds while adding four blocks and three steals. Her presence inside helped Glendale control the glass, outrebounding Saddleback 49–44.
Sammy Velasquez led the Vaqueros with 17 points, hitting two three-pointers and going 7-for-10 from the free-throw line while playing all 40 minutes. Aniah Bradley chipped in six points and eight rebounds, and Ligia Gonzalez added four points and four boards.
Glendale carried a slim 30–29 lead into the fourth quarter, but Saddleback closed on a 17–10 run to escape with the win.
The loss caps an impressive 24–5 season for the Vaqueros, who battled until the final buzzer in a playoff game that could have gone either way.
