The Glendale College Vaqueros used a dominant third quarter and strong defensive effort to defeat Bakersfield 55–47 on Wednesday night, improving to 21–4 overall and a perfect 11–0 in conference play.
In a defensive battle early, Glendale led just 19–16 at halftime before breaking the game open with a 25-point third quarter to create separation. The Vaqueros held Bakersfield to just 26.7% shooting from the field and controlled the glass with a 35–26 rebounding advantage.
Sammy Velasquez led GCC with 17 points, knocking down three three-pointers and adding three steals in a strong two-way performance. Kaitlin Johnson contributed 11 points, three assists, and two steals, while Aniah Bradley provided a spark off the bench with nine points and seven rebounds.
Inside, Shadel Ffrench anchored the defense with a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with a block and a steal. Mariah Maestas added seven points and four rebounds, helping Glendale maintain control in the backcourt.
Despite a physical fourth quarter, the Vaqueros stayed composed down the stretch to secure the win and remain unbeaten in conference action. Glendale continues to build momentum as the postseason approaches.
