The Glendale Vaqueros returned back home to the friendly confines of the Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon where they entered their fifth Western State Conference Southern Division matchup against the Eagles from nearby LA Mission. Sophomore Azusena Lopez was clutch once again - registering her ninth career contest with at least three hits or more and the eighth time this season and in the bottom of the fifth inning, she walked off the eight-run mercy with her sixth homerun, snapping a 13-game losing skid dating back to 2017 campaign to the Eagles.
Alyssa Perez got the scoring started in the opening inning with a bases loaded hit by pitch that scored Catarina Anzalone. Mia Jurado had two of the Vaqs' eight hits in the second inning that sent 12 batters to the plate, bringing home seven runs. Jurado and Olivia Ziebell-White each recorded their second homeruns of the season. Jazmin Jaquez collected her first career 3-hit game that included a triple, run scored and drove in two runs.
Mimi Sanchez was dominant in the circle, going all five innings with seven strikeouts allowing two runs to pick up her 10th win of the year and at the plate tripled once that brought home both Jaquez and Annaliese Ruiz.
The Vaqueros (17-9 overall) will next be at home on Thursday, March 26th for another WSC South game against the Monarchs of LA Valley with first pitch slated for 2pm. Just a reminder for all fans going to the last few home games this season, parking is limited due to improvements being made to the facilities.
