Vaqueros Blank Allan Hancock twice

The Glendale Vaqueros pitching staff threw two five inning shutouts against the Bulldogs of Allan Hancock 10-0 and 9-0 on Thursday. Behind the arms of sophomores in transfer Mia "Mimi" Sanchez and Annaliese "Annie" Ruiz, the Vaqs improved their home unbeaten streak to nine straight wins to start the season. They have also broken the record for the best start through 12 games in program history, going 11-1 overall.

In the first game, Catarina "Cat" Anzalone finished with two hits, three runs scored and doubled once. Anzalone has reached base with eight walks in the last five games and leads the team with 24 runs scored. Ariel "Shorty" Flores collected her first multi-hit game of the season, scoring twice. Sanchez improved to 5-1 overall in the circle tossing four no-hit innings, while striking out nine in the first game. Sanchez increased her lead in the Western State Conference with 58 strikeouts in 33.1 innings thrown. 

In the second game, Olivia "Liv" Ziebell-White recorded her second career three-hit game of the season. Ziebell-White tripled and drove home two runs. Mia Jurado was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Jeyslen Orial tripled with two runs driven in. Ruiz moved to 4-0 in the circle after hurling four innings, allowing only a bunt single in the fourth frame. She retired the first nine batters faced, while striking out three. Ruiz also combined for three hits at the plate in the doubleheader. 

Glendale will be home against the Mt San Jacinto College Eagles as part of their fourth straight doubleheader on Saturday, February 14th, with the first game slated to begin at 12pm and the second to start approximately 30 minutes after that.
