A decisive six-run eighth inning by Mt. San Antonio turned a tight game into a 10–4 final, handing the Glendale College Vaqueros their first loss of the season on Friday afternoon.
Glendale struck first in the third inning when Adrian Contreras lined an RBI single to score Tanner Teffs, giving the Vaqueros an early 1–0 lead. From there, the game stayed close through the middle innings as Glendale pitching kept Mt. SAC in check.
Diego Barajas delivered a solid start on the mound, working five innings and allowing four runs, only two earned, while striking out three. The game remained within reach until Mt. SAC broke through in the eighth with a big inning that put the contest out of reach.
Despite the final score, Glendale's offense was active all day, finishing with 13 hits. Jordan Viramontes led the way, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two doubles, continuing his strong series at the plate. Andrew Garcia reached base four times, finishing 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, while scoring a run.
Mike Bang added extra-base power with a double and an RBI, and Tanner Teffs chipped in with two hits, a stolen base, and a run scored. Contreras also contributed offensively with his RBI single, and Matt Hazlegrove collected a hit behind the plate.
Glendale mounted a late response in the eighth, scoring three runs on RBI doubles by Bang and Viramontes, along with an unearned run, but the rally wasn't enough to overcome Mt. SAC's explosive frame.
The Vaqueros move to 5–1 on the season and will look to bounce back quickly as they continue their early nonconference slate, taking positives from another strong offensive showing despite the setback.
