The 1961 men's swim team was coached by 2004 hall of fame inductee Bill Reinhard. They won the Western State Conference title that year and were regarded as one of the top teams in Southern California.
Ron Weilochowski - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
A two-time all-conference basketball player from 1962-64 Wielochowski still holds several scoring records at Glendale, including most points scored in a season and highest scoring average in a career (23.8) and for a season (30.5). He is still the Vaqueros season scoring leader and the No. 9 all-time leading career scorer when he played for 2005 hall of fame inductee coach Abe Androff. He continued his career at Southern Nevada University from 1964 to 1966 and now spends a great deal of his time doing charity work in Las Vegas.
In 1990, Marji won the state championship in the triple jump and completed in three events in that meet. She still holds the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 38-feet, eight inches and in the long jump at 17 feet, seven inches. Marji is in the top 10 all-time in the triple jump at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Steve Messmer - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Messmer is arguably the best tennis player to ever wield a racquet for the Vaqueros. He won the conference singles title in 1967 for 2002 hall of fame inductee coach Chuck Gibson and later won the NCAA Division II singles, Doubles and team title at San Fernando Valley State in 1969. He later played at Wimbledon in 1973 and the U.S. Open 1976.
Don Bennett - Outstanding Coach
Bennett coached football at Glendale from 1961 to 1965 and had an outstanding record of 36 wins, nine losses and two ties. He also coached the Vaqueros to the 1961 Potato Bowl, the 1962 Orange Show Bowl and the 1963 Potato Bowl. He was the coach during the tremendous period of growth at the college and many coaches on his staff went on to coach the major college and pro football teams.
Ted Tiffany - Meritorious Service
Tiffany played basketball from 1952-1954 at Glendale and was the team MVP and an all-conference player in 1954. He was a trustee at the college from 1981 to 1994 and served four terms as President. He also played basketball at Occidental College for two years and finished his career in 1957 as the Tigers leading scorer and an All-American.
