2005 GCC Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

 

1983 Men's Soccer Team - Outstanding Team

The 1983 Men's soccer team won the state championship that year with a 4-1 win over skyline College in the rain at Glendale High and finished the season 18-3-1. The Vaqueros were coached by Cherif Zein who also coached the 1979 GCC men's soccer team to a state championship.

Bob Gagliano - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

Bob Gagliano let the 1977 Vaquero foodball team to the Western State Conference title, the school's first in football, and was named All=American that season. He played 10 years in the NFL at quarterback.

Bob McMillen - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

Bob McMillen won the National Junior College Championship in the 1500 meters whil running for Glendale in 1948 and later won the silver medal in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki in the same event. He also qualified for the 1948 Olympics in London in the steeplechase.

Abe Androff - Outstanding Coach

Abe Androff coached the men's basketball team at Glendale College for 24 years from 1954 until 1978. He won 324 games to rank No. 2 on the school's all-time list in mens basketball. His 1958-59 team won the Western State Conference title and his 1962 team featured John Block, who later played at USC and for 10 years in the NBA. He also coached football, baseball and golf at Glendale College. 

Juno Stover Irwin - Pillar of Achievement

Juno Stover Irwin attended Glendale Colleg in the late 1940's. She competed in four straight Olympics in platform diving from 1948 to 1960, winning a bronze medal in 1952 in Helsinki and a silver medal inMelbourne 1956.
