Steve Moore - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

Steve Moore has always used every opportunity that life has presented to him. He is the owner and president of Moore Solutions in Bellevue, WA. He has worked with many high profile individuals and companies like Bill Gates and Microsoft for the past ten years developing their products and go-to market strategies and using his high speed strategic planning process with great success. And today, he is being inducted into the GCC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Moore says he owes it all to football. He owes it all to the game he first had a passion for at Muir Elementary School in Glendale. Later in junior high when his own school practice was finished, he would go down to Glendale High and watch the end of that practice as well.

“I was a gym rat and couldn’t get enough of the game. When I was at Muir, the one thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to be the head football coach at Glendale High,’’ he said recently. “I had dyslexia when I was young and so people thought I was dumb. But I was fast and that helped me be successful as a football player.’’

Moore was a standout player at Glendale High under head coach Roy Vujovich who partnered with fellow inductee George McGowan to create a pass catching tandem that had rarely been seen for the Nitros. They recreated that success at Glendale College in 1966 and 1967 with both players catching over thirty passes as sophomores in 1967and both earning All-American honors for the Vaqueros.

“It was really just the opportunity to play under a coach like Roy Vujovich and with players like George McGowan and Dan DeAvila,’’ Moore said. “Just a bunch of great guys playing a game we loved very much.’’

Moore earned his associate of arts degree at Glendale College and transferred to UC Santa Barbara and played football for the Gauchos before a serious concussion ended his college career early in his senior year. He recovered enough to play in the Coaches All American game and later tried out for the San Francisco 49ers in 1970, before another head injury ended his playing career for good. But as one door closed, another one opened for Moore. He landed a job as a graduate assistant football coach at Santa Barbara in 1971 and started a coaching odyssey that ended with coaching the Los Angeles Rams.

“The best coaching jobs are in the NFL and the players and coaches in the league are very passionate and dedicated to what they do,’’ he said. “I have been on the sidelines as a high school coach and at colleges like Army and Rice University but hands down, the NFL is the best place to work.’’

He created a new passion in 1989 in his work as a consultant and then as the owner and president of Moore Solutions. His background as an NFL football coach who understands the importance of vision and carrying out a well executed plan helped him, much like preparing a game plan for an opponent on the gridiron.

Moore still thinks a great deal about Glendale. He has a standing annual lunch date with 2008 Hall of Fame inductee Gary Wright, a friend from his coaching days with the Seattle Seahawks. Whoever loses the annual Glendale-Hoover game picks up the check—and Moore has enjoyed a free meal on Wright for the last few years.
