Coach-Derrick Williams Former GCC Women's Assistant Golf Coach Derrcik Williams has been hired as the New Head Coach at Glendale College. Williams was the Assistant Coach for the Lady Vaqs in 2015. He played NCAA Division I golf is a graduate of Michigan State University and was a very successful junior golfer. He is still a competitive golfer as a member of the PGA, and has competed on several mini tours in the United States and in events in Canada and Latin America.
After arriving to California, I started teaching kids in The First Tee of Pasadena. The time I spent here was a great start to my teaching career. I feel like it taught me how to level with beginners and really helped me mold my craft. I learned how to translate the complicated knowledge I have of the golf swing in a way that beginners would understand. I then joined the PGA as an apprentice and began teaching all ages. John Wells Golf Shop at Brookside GC gave me my first Assistant position. It was a great environment for me. I was lucky to have had several amazing instructors/mentors around to help me learn the ropes. This spring boarded my career to one of the best Country Clubs in Los Angeles, Valencia Country Club. Working here has opened doors for me professionally. Since moving here I have started teaching several college players and other local playing pros and expanded my brand to Scholl Canyon GC as well.
Connecting with young players is what guided me to coaching. I became the Glendale Community College Women's Assistant Coach in the fall of 2015. This was a memorable experience for me. I enjoyed mentoring my team and watched their interest grow rapidly as they improved their games. I feel lucky to now say my hard work payed off and that I will be the Head Coach for the 2016 season. This will be my first Head coaching position and It is the start to what I hope to be a fulfilling college coaching career.
We are looking for players who love the game and want to be a part of a fun competitive program on the rise and play on some of the best courses in Southern California against some of the best teams.''
